THE ROLE: Sensus, a Xylem brand, seeks to hire a Senior Mechanical
Engineer. The Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the
development and ongoing engineering support of the Sensus portfolio of
Electric meters. This position provides designs that meet utility and
industry requirements as well as internal requirements for cost
effectiveness, accuracy, functionality, performance, and reliability.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Development of solid state Electric meters assemblies for use in
rugged environments and manufacturing in high volumes (> 1 million
units per year).
- Developing the building blocks, tools and methods for new core
features and functionality for future products.
- Participate in the selection and implementation of new materials,
methods and processes for the enhancement of existing and
new products.
- Be responsible for the design, documentation, implementation,
testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of products, manufacturing
and engineering tools and systems as required.
- Responsible for simple, elegant, low cost designs but at the same
time must be very robust and designed for high volume manufacturing.
- Responsible for assuring mechanical design compliance with all
applicable ANSI, UL and Measurement Canada requirements. Responsible
for supporting the agency testing for compliance to these standards.
- Develop and work with the design engineering team on projects,
leading the mechanical and environmental designs and assisting with
design calculations, FAE and other structural and ergonomic factors.
- Assist System Test, Quality Assurance and Marketing in investigating
and analyzing defective product returned from customers.
- Assist Manufacturing in troubleshooting manufacturing
related problems.
- Assist system engineers and marketing program managers in making
recommendations for solutions to specific metering applications.
- Ensure all of aspects of mechanical design and development including
schedule adherence, cost, and performance/quality of the
end product.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, ABILITIES,
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:
- Bachelors of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or Equivalent
Experience
- At least 7+ years design experience with rugged environmental or
submersible enclosures.
- Perfer at least 2 years of experience with utility metering products
or experience in developing sensor based products for high
volume production.
- Broad plastic injection molding experience and extensive knowledge
of plastic molding techniques and tools.
- Experience designing products for high volume production (> 1
million units per year).
- Ability and desire to work in a fast paced team environment where
you will interface regularly with electrical, firmware and system
test engineers on system level design development.
- Ability to evaluate and make recommendation on cost control,
reliability and manufacturability issues and maintain aggressive
development schedules.
- Expert experience with ProE is required.
- Experience with mold flow analysis tools a plus.
- Excellent testing and troubleshooting skills
- Excellent communications skills with the ability to convey technical
concepts in business terms
- The ability to work with cross functional teams to create a fully
functional system
