THE ROLE: Sensus, a Xylem brand, seeks to hire a New Graduate Hardware
Test Engineer to develop and execute test plans to determine the
compliance and reliability of Sensus products and systems. Products
tested include Water, Gas, and Electric meters, Automatic Meter
Infrastructure (AMI) smart points, in-home-displays, street-lighting
solutions, network communication base stations and more. The candidate
will also work closely with hardware, mechanical and firmware developers
to insure the full integration of quality products.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work closely with Research and Development teams to
determine/predict component and system life in defined operating
environments to ensure product reliability and extended operating
life of the product
- Develop test systems and fixtures for a diverse product portfolio,
and use them to execute product performance testing for components,
PCBAs and complete unit assemblies on a wide variety of AC and DC
powered products intended for indoor and outdoor environments.
- Work with cross-functional teams to understand customer usage and
expectations and use the data to continuously improve test and
analysis practices and be a Voice of the Customer (VOC) to internal
design and quality teams
- Perform a variety of product tests including temperature, humidity,
packaged and unpackaged vibration, shock, drop and impact tests,
HALT, Salt Fog, rain/dust and other environmental stress
tests including.
- Perform metrology accuracy testing of gas, water and electric meters
- Conduct radio and RF characterization testing of transceiver
products and base stations
- Testing of products to North American and international
certification standards
- Use of Six Sigma techniques to define critical design parameters,
development of tests and analysis of performance data to determine
impacts on long-term product reliability or compliance performance
- Coordinate with external test-houses to conduct testing and analysis
when necessary
- Facilitation or participation in DFMEA of electrical and mechanical
systems and board level trouble-shooting
- Develop subassembly/system level reliability test plans (including
sample size, test duration time, test and measurement methodology)
and utilize test automation to improve efficiency and accuracy
where applicable.
- Analyze testing data and author defect tracking items and
reliability test reports
- Determine acceleration factors for reliability testing of critical
subassemblies and systems to use with HALT/ALT demonstrated life
testing and Weibull life prediction tools.
- Determine calculated MTBF/MTTF of critical subassemblies and systems
and develop correlation with field return failure rates,
demonstrated test results and drive product reliability improvement
- Utilization of statistical and reliability software tools (i.e.
Minitab, Jump, Reliasoft or Relex)
REQUIREMENTS:
- BS/MS Degree (Electrical or Mechanical Engineering) or equivalent
(combination of Associates Degree / military training or relevant
work experience considered)
- Zero to 1 year of related test and verification work experience
preferred
- Relevant class/lab training in electro-mechanical hardware testing;
testing over various environmental stresses (temperature, humidity,
vibration, voltage, current) a plus
- Operation of Spectrum Analyzer, Oscilloscope, Signal Generator,
Hi-Pot and ESD and anechoic chamber test equipment a plus
- Test automation programming experience preferred; experience with
C#, Java, or C++ programming languages
- Experience with MS Office (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- A team player with excellent written and verbal communication skills
- RF testing/analysis experience also a plus
