    THE ROLE: Sensus, a Xylem brand, seeks to hire an Engineering Manager for the development and implementation of utility gas metering and control products.  The position will be permanent and located in Dubois, PA and will require periodic travel to other engineering facilities in North Carolina, as well as suppliers, and contract manufacturers.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Development of electro-mechanical devices, environmental packages, interfaces, and adapters used in rugged environments and in high volume electronic applications.
    • Develop measuring and communication devices for gas applications, including both solid state and mechanical interfaces.
    • Developing the building blocks, tools, and methods for new core features and functionality for future products. 
    • Participate in the selection and implementation of new materials, methods, and processes for the enhancement of existing and new products.
    • Lead the design engineering team in the development of new products from conceptualization through production launch.  Ensure all aspects of the electrical and mechanical design meet performance, schedule, quality, and cost requirements.
    • Oversee the engineers that support existing products and product sustaining activities including part deviation approvals, capacity tooling approvals, alternate material approvals, production capacity improvements, and general trouble shooting.
    • Support cost savings and alternate supplier part approvals across multiple product platforms.
    • Ensure product designs meet desired performance, regulatory, and reliability requirements
    • Generate system specifications, product requirements, mechanical component and assembly drawings, and manufacturing process requirements to effectively communicate with internal and external customers.
    • Work with domestic and international manufacturing teams to implement DFA/DFM principles during development, creation, and/or implementation of assembly processes for new products and ongoing support for existing products.
    • Oversee system level test plans to support new product development.
    • Direct Quality, Marketing, and System Test in approving tooling, alternate supplier qualification, and investigating and analyzing defective product returned from customers.
    • Assist system engineers and marketing program managers in making recommendations for solutions to specific metering applications.
    • Interface with various in house and third-party Automated Meter Reading (AMR) companies on the integration of their technology with the Sensus portfolio of metering products.
    • Engage with customers on site to understand, investigate and solve any issues associated with the Sensus products that are deployed.  Work with Quality to drive improvements and corrective action back into the product line.
    • Lead the definition, development and sustaining of state of the art metrology test stations that enable repeatable, accurate testing of gas metrology products for R&D, production and customer calibration efforts.
    • Set and communicate priorities and engineering schedules to internal stakeholders and the engineering team
    • Have the ability to motivate and mentor engineers.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelors of Science degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
    • At least 8 + years of experience with product design.  Experience with rugged environmental and submersible enclosures, utility metering products, and sensor based products for high volume production preferred. 
    • Experience with electromagnetic/ultrasonic flow meters and other solid state metrology methods and technologies.
    • Familiarity with common electrical and mechanical product manufacturing processes
    • Product testing and root cause analysis skills. 
    • Familiarity with regulatory agency requirements such as ANSI, UL and Intrinsic Safety.
    • Ability and desire to work in a fast paced team environment where you will lead electrical and mechanical engineers and technicians on product development and sustaining tasks. 
    • Desire and ability to learn new tools, processes, and design techniques.  
    • Ability to evaluate and make recommendations on cost control, reliability and manufacturability issues, and to maintain aggressive development schedules.  
    • Excellent communications skills with the ability to convey technical concepts in business terms.
    • Must be a team player, willing to work across departments to lead cross-functional teams to develop and deliver best in class products and solutions.
