    The Role: Sensus, a Xylem brand, seeks to hire a Senior RF Development Engineer to assist in the development and ongoing engineering support of the Sensus portfolio of Infrastructure and Smart City products.  As part of the overall Sensus offering, Infrastructure and Smart City products serve as an intermediate communications interface with utility endpoints and utility providers.  The Senior RF Development Engineer will work with other engineering disciplines in the development and ongoing technical support of the Sensus portfolio and will entail full life-cycle responsibilities from conceptual design of new product introduction to resolving any technical issue with legacy products.  Product design ownership, collaborative attitude, and enthusiasm for delivering on-time within budget and quality requirements are crucial for success in this position.

     

    This individual will be part of a focused development team involved with the following: 

    • Development of micro-controller or DSP based embedded systems and high volume products for the next generation of Automatic Meter Infrastructure (AMI) products.
    • Development of the building blocks for new core features and functionality for future products.
    • Participation in the selection of suitable RF and antenna components, microprocessors, analog circuits and development tools.

      Job Responsibilities:

    • Lead all RF and antenna design activities within the multi-functional development team in the development of new products from conceptualization through production launch. Ensure all aspects of the RF and antenna design meet performance, schedule, quality and cost requirements.
    • Able to design and verify non-RF electrical components such as microprocessors, discrete and integrated power supplies, sensors and other various categories of electronic components.
    • Conduct design reviews and work within cross-functional teams including electrical, mechanical, software, firmware, manufacturing, marketing and supply chain.
    • Ensure the product design meets desired performance, regulatory and reliability requirements.
    • Generate documentation such as system specifications, product requirements and manufacturing test specifications to effectively communicate with internal and external customers.
    • Work with domestic and international manufacturing teams to implement DFA/DFM principles during development of new products and ongoing support for existing products.
    • Develop, conduct and/or manage component and system level test plans to support new product development.
    • Assist system engineers and marketing program managers in making recommendations for solutions to specific endpoint and infrastructure applications.

    Minimum Qualifications: Education, Experience, Skills, Abilities, License/Certification:

    • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (Required)
    • Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (Desired)
    • At least 8 + years of experience with product design focused on RF and antenna development. 
    • Expert experience with RF and antenna testing tools such as spectrum and network analyzers, oscilloscopes, multi-meters and anechoic chambers.
    • Experience with schematic capture and circuit board layout tools such as Altium.
    • Experience with RF and antenna simulation tools such as ADS/EMPro.
    • Product testing and root cause analysis skills. Familiarity with regulatory agency requirements such as FCC and ETSI.
    • Ability and desire to work in a fast-paced team environment where you will interface regularly with mechanical, back-end software, firmware and system test engineers on system-level design development. 
    • Desire and ability to learn new tools, processes and design techniques.
    • Ability to evaluate and make recommendations on cost control, reliability and manufacturability issues and maintains aggressive development schedules.  
    • Excellent communications skills with the ability to convey technical concepts in business terms.
