THE ROLE:  Xylem seeks to hire a R&D Test Technician .The R&D Test Technician is a member of the product development engineering team, and will have the responsibility of assisting the team in the development of new products and the maintenance of existing products.  To properly perform the essential functions of the job, the R&D Technician must have an exceptional mechanical and electrical aptitude, a desire to design and build electromechanical test mechanisms, be familiar with data acquisition systems, and be detail oriented.  The technician must also have the ability to clearly communicate written and orally with peers, engineers, and management.  The R&D Engineering Technician will be expected to learn about the products being tested, how they are to be tested, and the reason why the testing is required.  After undergoing a sufficient training period, the technician must also be able to identify and report on problems, hazards, or any other technical issues encountered during the testing process.  The ability to create, work with and read schematics, drawings and electrical diagrams is required, as is the willingness to work in a test lab environment. Required Skills and Abilities

• Proficient in MS Office: Word, Excel, PPT
• Labview experience (Is a Plus)
• Basic knowledge of variable frequency drives (preferred)
• Experience with hand and power tools
• Understanding formal problem solving methodologies
• Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude
• A strong sense of ownership and drive
• Eagerness to learn from experienced engineers, technicians, and managers

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Support engineering activities in the design, test, evaluation, modification, fabrication, and assembly of prototype electro- mechanical components and systems
• Develop solutions to technical problems of moderate scope and complexity
• Contribute to the successful completion of milestones associated with routine technical tasks
• Works with colleagues to obtain and/or provide information to complete assignments
• Ability to use and read manual and digital measurement equipment and record data from this equipment.
• Physically capable of performing the duties in an industrial R&D test laboratory
• Assist in determining methods or actions to correct problems.
• Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Associates/Technical school degree – mechanical/electrical, or related field
• Basic knowledge of test methodologies and statistical tools used to solve problems
• Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing equipment
• Broad knowledge of test machines and instruments
• Ability to read graphs and perform algebraic calculations
• Willingness to work in a research and development environment
• Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment of engineers to meet aggressive goals
• Perform high quality work
• Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, dynamic, and high visibility environment and work well as part of a team
• Strong oral and written technical communication skills
• Work in the Xylem - Seneca Falls, NY facility
• Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude
