    The role of the Outdoor Water Monitoring Specialist will be to communicate with customers through training events and site visits, create high-quality and highly technical marketing content, support the sales and integration teams in understanding their customers’ needs, and identify new opportunities for existing products and new product concepts.  This “expert in the field” is a critical liaison between product management and the customer base. The Outdoor Water Monitoring Specialist will not be a mere technician:  there are plenty of technically-adept people who can set up the instrumentation.  Rather, we are looking for candidates with the ability to understand the research and applications that customers are conducting, so that we better understand customer motivations and needs.  A clear understanding of the importance of data quality, instrument specifications as they impact outcomes and why customers make specific requests for products or product improvements is paramount.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Maximize customer awareness of our products and services through regular customer contact and collaboration.
    • Act as a champion for customers with internal teams that include product managers who direct new product development.
    • Attend relevant exhibitions, seminars, meetings and training courses to maintain a high level of expertise and recognition by industry peers.
    • Present at professional society and industry-relevant conferences and meetings.
    • Provide analysis and insights into the global water quality and hydrology markets to help promote Xylem Analytics products.
    • Generate and assist with content to support sales and marketing activities – demonstration videos, white papers and/or peer-reviewed publications, application and technical notes, product literature such as catalogs, specification sheets and brochures.
    • Assist with marketing campaigns – both content generation and execution.
    • Keep sales, marketing and other company personnel informed about competitive activity and potential new business opportunities.     
    • Provide feedback for product line improvement and new product ideas.
    • Extensive travel is an expectation, both domestic and international, in the range of 40-60% of full time effort.

           

    COMPETENCIES OF IDEAL CANDIDATE:

    • Demonstrable technical expertise in the form of peer-reviewed publications, technical reports, white papers, or reviews provided by people the candidate has previously engaged with on a technical level.
    • Exceptional writing and presentation skills, including full competency with Power Point and other presentation media.
    • Formal technical training or experience, preferably related to water quality monitoring and/or hydrology.
    • The ability to develop deep product knowledge for a wide range of products in our current portfolio.
    • Ability to give presentation to 50+ to customers and potential customers at conferences, industry trade show, company sites and customer sites.
    • Analysis and management of data generated from our technologies.
    • Well organized and self-motivated.
    • Ability to handle multiple tasks and to appropriately prioritize and reprioritize as necessary.
    • Conscientious with respect to deadlines.

      EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

    • Minimum of a B.S. degree in a Science, Engineering or Business-related field.  Preference will be for candidates with multiple years of experience working with our technologies or an advanced degree.
    • Experience selling or using scientific analytical instrumentation, with preference given to water quality and hydrology experience.

    • Regularly required to sit or stand, reach, bend and move about the facility and outdoors
    • Travel 40-60%. Domestic & international.
