Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars. SOLAR ARRAY PHOTOVOLTAICS ENGINEER

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Drive design and manufacturing process development of high volume manufactured, low-cost photovoltaic assemblies for space applications
    • Model cost, performance, reliability, and manufacturability of photovoltaic assemblies
    • Understand and evaluate current and emerging photovoltaic technologies within all relevant solar industries
    • Develop new tests to characterize degradation mechanisms and predict the performance of proposed designs through product life.
    • Perform due diligence on designs including hand calculations, FMEA, and DFMEA
    • Participate in design trades considering mechanical, optical, electrical, thermal, and cost performance
    • Design, document, and release flight designs using industry best standards
    • Coordinate development effort across multiple teams
    • Track and communicate project status

    BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or science
    • 5+ years of experience in technical program management

    PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

    • MS or Ph.D. graduate degree in engineering or science.
    • Familiarity with spacecraft solar arrays and the space environment
    • Familiarity with high volume manufacturing
    • Familiarity with terrestrial solar arrays
    • Enthusiasm for hands-on prototyping
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills

    ITAR REQUIREMENTS:

    • To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
