    TOOLMAKER

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Build and maintain some of the most advanced structures and machines in the world
    • Determine methods and sequence of operations working from tool design drawings
    • Lay-out, fabricate, and assemble a variety of standard and non-standard major jigs, fixtures, tool masters, master tooling gauges and related tooling that involve compound angles and complex contours
    • Develop and design holding devices and jig and fixture details
    • Suggest changes in tooling design involving practicability, economy and process of manufacture to proper personnel
    • Make determinations regarding fabrication and design of detail parts such as fittings, stops, locating pins and mechanical operation of jigs, and submit them to proper personnel for approval 
    • Use complex tool design drawings and complex engineering blueprints with proficiency
    • Utilize model-based metrology and design software as applicable per design requirements
    • Operate various types of machine shop equipment (manual/CNC) to complete assignments as required

    BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

    • 2+ years of experience in precision mechanical construction
    • 2+ years of experience in tool design with model-based software
    • 1+ years of experience building jigs and other similar fixtures

    PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

    • Associate’s degree in a technical discipline
    • 5+ years of experience with model-based 3D metrology software with an understanding of how to create reference systems
    • Basic conventional machining skills (lathe & mill)
    • CNC machining skills
    • Portable machining skills (boring bars and milling)
    • Previous experience interpreting complex blueprints including the ability to identify and understand specifications, and thorough understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
    • Basic computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office suite
    • Self-direction and capable of working with minimal supervision

    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Ability to pass Cape Canaveral and Vandenberg Air Force Station background checks
    • Must be available to work all required shift hours and be available to work overtime, and weekends, as needed
    • Must be willing to travel to our launch sites in Florida, California and Texas
