    NETWORK MODELING AND SIMULATION ENGINEER

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Create and maintain MAC, PHY and Network simulation models and perform network simulations for SpaceX’s satellite communication network.
    • Perform network design, trade-off studies and assist in developing and defining protocols for Layers 2 and 3.

    BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, computer engineering, or other engineering field. 
    • 5+ years of hands-on experience with Network and MAC modeling and simulation for broadband access technologies: LTE, WiMax, WiFi or similar.
    • 2+ years of experience using Network Simulators like NS3, OPNET or similar
    • 2+ years of experience with network monitoring protocols and tools such as Wireshark, SNMP, Ethereal, WinPcap or similar.
    • 2+ years of experience with C, C++ or Python.

    PREFERRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

    • Master's Degree or PhD in computer science, computer engineering, or other engineering field.
    • Skilled in troubleshooting and tuning of component hardware, software, networking and communications protocol problems.
    • Knowledge of networking protocols and applications, including TCP/IP.
    • Solid aptitude in protocol standards such as IPv4, IPv6, Mobile IP, LTE, 802.16e, 802.11b/g/n/ac.
    • Experience with modern encryption and decryption protocols.
    • Knowledge of object-oriented programming concepts.
    • Working knowledge of SQL database programming.
    • Strong theoretical background in Wireless Networks.
    • Experience with systems integration and testing methodologies.
    • Fundamental understanding of current Internet protocols and applications.
    • Industry technical certifications are a plus.
    • Knowledge in several of the following: network protocols and applications including TCP/IP, QoS algorithms, cellular/satellite network protocols, software defined networks, network security.

    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Must be willing to work extended hours and weekends as needed.

    ITAR REQUIREMENTS:

    • To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
