PRODUCTION SUPERVISOR – MERLIN SUBASSEMBLIES
The subassemblies production supervisor is responsible for a majority of
the F9 stage and engine subassemblies, secondary structures/weldments
and the corresponding production level tests to ensure the flight
hardware is healthy. This supervisor is responsible for the overall on
time delivery of hardware thru the work center, reducing defects, while
increasing productivity. This area has multiple customers and requires
maintaining several different manufacturing techniques and quality
standards across the product family. A successful candidate enjoys
challenges brought on by new products while being excited every time a
process is production ready.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop each team member in to a Rockstar by creating training on
each part and ensuring the team holds themselves to the highest
standard
- Establish and deploy weekly safety and quality plans to ensure
personnel and product health through the area
- Ensure each individual has tooling, parts, consumables, etc.
necessary to be successful on a given day
- Develop capacity plans for the area and report against target
results
- Works closely with the manufacturing and responsible engineering
teams for new production introduction on first builds
- Lead and manage a staff of ~10-20 technicians including all
performance management related tasks
- Review work instructions and make change recommendations
when needed.
- Responsible for assessing & vetting the appropriate skillset needed
to deliver healthy products down the line
- Accomplishes production results by communicating job expectations;
planning, monitoring, appraising job results
- Maintains workflow by monitoring steps of the process; setting
processing variables; observing control points and equipment;
monitoring personnel and resources; studying methods
- Develop and Implement cost reductions processes and efficiency
improvement measures
- Continuously improving process and manpower efficiency, utilization
and productivity
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of 2 years in a leadership position
- Minimum of 5 years in final assembly and production, in aviation,
aerospace, or systems with comparable complexity and high
reliability
- Experience with applying lean manufacturing principles, efficiency
methods required
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- SpaceX experience
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline or equivalent hands-on
experience with highly complex systems
- Experience in TIG/orbital tube welding, final integration, and/or
pressure testing
- 10 years of experience in final assembly and production in a fast
paced aerospace manufacturing environment
- Experience bringing teams and processes from development to
production desirable.
- Familiarity with Design for Manufacturability, Kaizen, Lean
Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and Failure Mode Effects Analysis
- Ability to effectively communicate (verbal and written) with
Engineering and Production
- Able to adapt to constant changing work assignments and fast paced
work environment
- Excellent concentration and attention to detail with outstanding
work efficiency and accuracy
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to stand for extended periods – 8 hours min
- Must be willing to work extended hours and weekends as needed
- Must be willing to work any shift
- Must be able to travel for short and extended trips as needed. Up to
5% travel
