BUYER – COMPOSITES NEW PRODUCT INTRODUCTION
The SpaceX Supply Chain Department is a critical player in our
operations. To capitalize on our technical and market success, our team
will execute large-scale projects that will define the bottom-line for
the company. The functions within the department include procurement,
planning and fulfillment, supplier development and quality, logistics
and inventory. As SpaceX becomes the overall market leader, they will
position us to maximize valuation, fuel growth and ensure achievement.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Overall responsibilities are to support Engineering and Production teams
with the development and sourcing of new cutting edge composites
technology for the Dragon 2 Spacecraft.
- Mobilize and lead a cross-functional procurement team to achieve
cost, quality, and delivery targets on new product introductions
- Drive procurement commodity strategies at the development stage for
new components
- Identify and propose best value suppliers to the engineering team
based on individual’s interpretation of requested parts/blueprints
- Ensure continuity of supply and lead escalation meetings with
suppliers for parts shortages to develop recovery plan
- Proactively provide updates to SpaceX management and engineering
team on all critical supply issues
- Administer moderate to large contracts and independently negotiate
with suppliers contract terminology, pricing, technical
requirements, scope and terms involving responsibility, liability,
indemnification, and intellectual property
- Initiate long term agreement negotiations with strategic suppliers
- Support Engineering, Production, and New Product Introduction
Procurement teams when determining best value suppliers, NPI
Sourcing plans, Make vs. Buy, Should Cost, Buy complete strategies,
and Lead times, etc.
- Drive design for manufacturability reviews with support from
Supplier Quality Development and Engineering
- Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships
- Visit supplier’s facilities and accurately assess technical
capability, equipment, and capacity
- Place component POs for new product development
- Resolve purchase order discrepancies and invoice issues
- Analyze procurement data and report metrics
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, supply chain, or similar
technical discipline
- 3+ years of technical procurement, manufacturing, or component
design / development
PREFERRED SKILLS:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering field
- Experience procuring composites structures, adhesives, seals, etc
- Knowledge of carbon fiber or matrix based resins
- Strong leadership and team building skills
- Remarkable problem solving skills with a bias for speed
- Produce exceptional work all the time
- Ability to learn quickly and prioritize appropriately to meet
customer and company needs
- Excellent customer service skills
- Effective written, verbal and presentation communication skills
- Ability to read drawings and blueprints
- Exceptional analytical and organizational skills
- Strong technical knowledge and skills in current technologies and
applications, ie. MS Office Suite, SQL, Access, etc
- Must be detail-oriented, self-motivated and able to respond quickly
to a fast-moving and ever-changing environment
- Conducts all activities with the highest of integrity
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to work long hours and weekends as needed
- 25% travel may be required
