LEAD LAUNCH TECHNICIAN - FABRICATION
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Take an active role in hiring decisions
- Provide scheduling details, any needed instructional guidance of job
assignments, correct procedures and applicable techniques to perform
specific skills; ensure accuracy and completion
- Ensure all employees are trained and competent on required tools and
equipment
- Ensure employees have the necessary resources, product, tools and/or
equipment
- Provide leadership by setting an example, being a model, taking
input and deciding how it fits according to our strategic
initiatives
- Identify process improvement and ensure operations are lean,
efficient and effective
- Facilitate communication between team members
- Follow multiple onsite operations and be able to discuss setup and
results in a technical manner
- Create and follow complex sequences to guide operations
- Lead and manage team environment to accomplish varied and complex
tasks
- Ensure Launch team members are following SpaceX procedures and
stipulations to create a safe environment
- Ensure all Launch team members are performing in a professional
manner
- Help troubleshoot issues
- Provide technician support which involves building, installing,
maintaining and troubleshooting equipment such as pumps, tanks,
valves and plumbing related to the LOX pad, fuel pad, and other
aspects of the site facilities
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair equipment and instrumentation as
needed
- Operate and maintain hardware, high pressure systems and pumps, and
other ancillary equipment including pneumatic components
- Fabricate and repair ground system hardware and equipment
- Collaborate with design engineers to develop and document ground
system activities
- Ensure all materials are clean and inspected according to Clean for
Oxygen Service Standards
- Build and maintain structural and engine test equipment
- Obtain and maintain licenses, operator permits or certifications as
required
- Follow all necessary regulations and appropriate SpaceX procedures
including quality policies, safety policies, OSHA, EPA, NIOSH, NFPA,
ASME, NEC, etc… standards
- Develop novel ways site wide to streamline processes and increase
the reliability of testing operations
- Perform a variety of related duties in support of engine testing and
structural test stand programs
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or GED
- 1 year experience as a Launch Technician
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Associates Degree
- Airframe and/or Powerplant (A&P) License
- Experience in the space exploration industry, military or other
high-reliability operating environment
- Experience with ground support equipment in an aerospace industry
- Mechanical aptitude and experience (work with machines and
general tooling)
- Formalized mechanical training, skilled in hand and power tool usage
- A demonstrated experience where quick-thinking and problem solving
plays a critical role
- Knowledge of high vacuum systems is an advantage
- Knowledge of all types of borescope inspection equipment
- Knowledge of various fittings such as National Pipe Thread (NPT) and
AN fittings
- Ability to utilize power tools and hand tools as well as heavy
equipment
- Use of precision measuring instruments
- Ability to read and understand mechanical and electrical schematics
- Knowledge of hazardous systems – cryogenic, flammable, hypergolic,
pyrophoric
- Knowledge of high pressure system design and handling
- Experience using launch instrumentation and control components
- Demonstrated leadership abilities
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- General physical fitness is required for some work areas, flight
hardware typically is built in tight quarters and physical dexterity
is required
- Ability to lift heavy objects up to 35lbs unassisted
- Valid Driver’s License, and a clean driving record
- Ability to work at elevated heights
- Typically exposed to work in extreme outdoor environments – heat,
cold, rain
- Work performed in an environment requiring exposure to fumes, odors,
and noise
- Willing to work extended hours and weekends, as needed
- Must pass Air Force background check for Cape Canaveral
