MANAGER, AVIONICS R&D ASSEMBLY
We are looking for an experienced and talented leader to manage a team
of technicians and specialists dedicated to supporting avionics hardware
development and test engineering. The success of SpaceX depends on our
ability to continuously innovate in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
and the Avionics R&D Assembly team provides the hands-on skills
necessary to achieve that goal.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead a team of 12+ technicians and specialists: set priorities, plan
work, grow skills, mentor new employees, provide technical feedback,
manage performance reviews
- Manage the team’s workload: balance long term and emergency
requests, manage schedules, provide timely and accurate status to
engineers, add temporary and/or permanent headcount as needed to
support demand
- Work closely with engineering managers to identify upcoming
projects, set priorities and expectations, communicate risks, and
advocate for team requirements
- Improve the skills and capabilities of the team through training,
process development, continuous improvement, and mentorship
- Manage the R&D and test engineering labs: allocate resources,
maintain tools and equipment, and plan for new facility and
equipment needs
- Provide feedback to engineers on designs for manufacture-ability
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline with 3+ years of
professional experience as an engineer or technician or 7+ years of
professional experience as an engineer or technician
- 3+ years of management or supervisory experience
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Experience managing a team of technicians in a fast-paced
environment
- Competent with electrical test equipment (DMMs, oscilloscopes, power
supplies, etc.)
- Experience with electrical and mechanical design tools
- Knowledge of commercial and aerospace assembly standards
- Experience documenting electro-mechanical assemblies
- Track record of identifying and developing the next generation of
leaders
- Extremely organized and detail oriented
- Ability to motivate others with energy, passion, and hard work
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to lift 25 lbs unassisted, stoop, bend, crawl, and maneuver
in tight spaces
- Willing to work extended hours and weekends when needed; typical
work hours are 50-55 hours per week; flexibility required

must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S.,
