    Suffolk University's Grant-funded Veteran's Upward Bound (VUB) Program invites applications from qualified individuals to fill the summer science instructor position. The Suffolk University Veterans Upward Bound program provides eligible pre-college participants with the academic support to enter and complete a post secondary program. As part of programming, participants take part in developmental education courses in the following subjects: English, Math, Science, Foreign Language and Composition. The federally funded VUB program offers additional academic support such as career exploration, college admissions counseling, financial literacy and more in an effort to prepare participants for post secondary success. The Science Instructor of VUB courses will report to the VUB Associate Director and the Vice President of Diversity, Access, and Inclusion throughout the summer of 2018.The Summer Academic program will occur from June 4, 2018- July 30, 2018 with classes being held during standard business hours on Mondays and Wednesdays. Instructors will be required to teach 6 hours per week and utilize 4 floating hours for planning, grading, and office hours. Instructors will also be responsible for creating the syllabus, lesson plans, and experiential learning opportunities. PRIMARY/PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES: COURSE DESIGN – Instructors are responsible for developing course syllabus and lesson plans that incorporate interactive experiential learning strategies. Instructors utilize methods to prepare veterans for the collegiate learning environment. Classes meet twice per week for 3 hours per session. Instructors much prepare lesson plans, course work, and supporting assignments. Instructor is responsible for establishing ground rules and class expectations. INSTRUCTION – Instructors will deliver content to participants enrolled in VUB classes through face-to-face classes and will also utilize virtual learning platforms to enhance the learning. Instructors must instruct three hours per class and be available for office hours. RECORD KEEPING AND REPORTING – Instructors must submit course reports and maintain program records to remain in compliance with reporting requirements. EVALUATION – Instructors will assess participants academic levels and monitor their progress throughout the therm. Instructors will also provide programmatic feedback regarding the instructional components of the VUB program. Other Duties As Assigned. REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or related field. Master’s Degree Preferred.
    • Experience with curriculum design and student assessment.
    • Three to five years demonstrated experience working with adult learners and or veterans.
    • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
    • Experience working with diverse groups of students and professionals.
    • Proficiency with computers and technology.

    This position is grant-funded. Employment beyond the specified time frame is contingent upon continued federal funding.
