BUILDING MATERIAL PURCHASING MANAGER DESCRIPTION
Our client is looking for a Building Material Purchasing Manager to add to their team in Michigan. The ideal candidate comes from the lumber industry and has several years of purchasing experience and experience in supply chain and inventory control. The ideal candidate will be driven by a passion for market dynamics, a talent for negotiation and will consistently procure necessary products at lowest landed costs. You will be responsible for developing policies, procedures and objectives for the operation of the purchasing program. You will identify trends, oversee inventory, and evaluate products and suppliers to make recommendations to the General Manager and Sales Staff. This position requires excellent organizational and record-keeping skills. You will work to advance the corporate mission statement. The Building Material Purchasing Manager is a central post in a high-energy, fast-paced and engaging business model. BUILDING MATERIAL PURCHASING MANAGER RESPONSIBILITIES • Direct a purchasing program which meets/exceeds company objectives • Develop & secure sources of supply for important materials • Maintain knowledge of all new developments relative to materials and supplies • Make recommendations designed to reduce cost and improve performance • Maintain purchasing records • Evaluate inventory needs; complete purchase orders • Negotiate purchase agreements with appropriate vendors • Manage all claims to ensure that credit is received • Issue Vendor specific purchase authorizations for all products and categories • Maintain records for filled, partially filled and unfilled orders (backorders) & ensure accuracy • Match all acknowledgements with open purchase orders • Monitor purchasing, receiving and shipping paperwork activities for accuracy • Perform regular vendor analysis on current and prospective vendors • Oversee inventory control, identify problems, investigate causes & correct errors • Report to General Manager any suspicious activities involving inventory or paperwork • Negotiate with suppliers on all conflicts • Follows up on special order items within specific inventory categories • Expedite shipments for emergencies • Maintain cost and sell price files across all products • Resolve customer complaints/warranty issues on all products
BUILDING MATERIAL PURCHASING MANAGER QUALIFICATIONS • 5+ years purchasing experience (lumber or construction industry) required • 1+ years sourcing/ vendor management experience required • Mathematics proficiency (calculation projections, statistical analysis) required • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required • Vendor management software experience strongly preferred
