    At Vulcan, persuasive storytelling and engagement in public affairs and policy development are key tools we use to bring to life the vision of our founder, Paul G. Allen. The role inside the communications team requires a gifted PR professional who can help to promote Vulcan initiatives using earned media and integrate into the larger communications team as a valued colleague and storyteller.

     

    The Manager, Corporate Communications manages and executes internal and external communication strategies, including media relations, social media campaigns, and special events across various projects and business units, but with a particular focus on PUBLIC POLICY AND PUBLIC AFFAIRS. Additionally, this role works in concert with outside agencies to promote Vulcan Productions and their mission to use storytelling, particularly documentary films, to educate, engage and activate audiences in important issues and causes. This position reports to the Director of Public Relations.

     

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Manage and contribute to Vulcan’s external strategic communication plan, and lead the content development across diverse media platforms to ensure the positive public image of Vulcan’s projects and initiatives, business, and top executives among diverse external audiences locally, regionally, nationally and internationally.

    • Contribute to the management and execution of public relations campaigns across Paul Allen and Vulcan’s various initiatives and philanthropic with particular emphasis on programs that touch public policy and issue advocacy, including closely working with Vulcan Productions on their development of documentary films and other entertainment products.

    • Execute and contribute to Vulcan’s Government & Community Affairs strategic communication plan across various local, federal, and national governments and political landscapes in support of Vulcan’s efforts and initiatives.

    • May serve as primary spokesperson for Vulcan and its executives, contribute to media training efforts for other corporate spokespeople, and develop briefing materials and message creation.

    • Assist in the selection, hiring and management of vendors and contractors across multiple disciplines including public relations, advertising and marketing firms, freelance writers, and event design.

    • Develop program-specific metrics for external campaigns and use available tools to evaluate, course-correct and refine.

    • Demonstrate honesty, responsibility, integrity and fulfillment of commitments.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS

    KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE, SKILL, AND/OR ABILITY

    REQUIRED      

    • Proven abilities to design strategic communications campaigns and successfully execute them, with clear objectives and metrics.

    • Digital media strategy design experience.

    • Strong media relations experience and proven creative ability to develop winning story pitches.

    • Prior crisis management communication experience.

    • Superior written and verbal communication skills.

    • Strong initiative and flexibility working in a fast-paced environment.

     

    PREFERRED

    • Experience in public affairs, public policy, political campaigns or policy advocacy.

    • Experience in promoting documentary filmmaking or television.

    MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES May directly manage one or more employees. Carries out responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

    REQUIRED COMPUTER SKILLS

    MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)

     

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATIONS

    Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) from accredited institution and at least 8 years progressive responsibility/relevant experience, OR equivalent combination of education and experience. 

     

    Travel estimated to be 20%.
