THIS POSITION REQUIRES A PASSION FOR CREATING THE FINEST TOOLS FOR
JOURNALISTS AND AUDIO/VIDEO PRODUCERS. WE ARE A SMALL IT DEPARTMENT THAT
CONCENTRATES ON THE WORKFLOWS AND SOFTWARE NEEDED TO MAKE GREAT
PODCASTS, MUSIC STREAMS, AND VIDEOS. WE SUPPORT A VIBRANT RADIO FACILITY
THAT HOSTS LIVE CONTROL ROOMS AND A TIRELESS NEWSROOM. THE IDEAL
CANDIDATE WILL KNOW ALL ABOUT THE PRODUCTION OF AUDIO AND VIDEO CONTENT,
WILL HAVE WORKED WITH AUDIO A LOT, AND WILL HAVE IT EXPERIENCE.
SCRIPTING AND CODING ARE A PLUS.
DAY TO DAY, THIS POSITION PROVIDES END-USER AND BACK-END SUPPORT FOR
MEDIA-SPECIFIC SYSTEMS, SUCH AS RADIO AUTOMATION (LIKE DAVID AND
NEXGEN), PRODUCTION (AVID PRO TOOLS, PREMIER), ON-AIR CALL
MANAGEMENT (PHONEBOX), NEWSROOM SYSTEMS (NEWSBOSS), VIDEO PRODUCTION
SYSTEMS (TRICASTER), MUSIC SCHEDULING SOFTWARE (MUSICMASTER).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Designs, installs, and maintains production workstations
for creative-types.
- Monitors the health of VMware servers – mostly ones that move,
convert, or organize audio.
- Responds to technical requests from end users for repair, training,
and information.
- Provides OS patches and app-level software upgrades.
- Works with software vendors to design and optimize our facility to
best meet our end-users’ needs.
- Creates clear and friendly documentation for end-users.
- Follows Standard Operating Procedures as set by WNYC Engineering and
IT departments.
- Documents solutions and contributes to a knowledge base for
reference as part of trouble-reporting systems.
- Maintains all technical areas in an organized and safe condition
including all installations of broadcast and production IT equipment
as well as any staging, workbench and testing facilities.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Works closely with the WNYC Business IT department in
troubleshooting, repair and documentation of systems as related to
the core enterprise network or systems.
- Acquires and maintains an in-depth knowledge of WNYC operations and
its technical facilities; especially as these relate to broadcast
and production systems.
- Participates in any training seminars, classes, workshops, etc.
recommended by WNYC.
- Performs additional duties as needed.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
- Very strong team orientation - required
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills - required.
- Proficient with PC hardware deployment, server and LAN/SAN
architecture and have expertise with PC and Mac operating systems -
required.
- Knowledge of audio and video, editing, mixing, storage and
redundancy - required
- Knowledge and understanding of current radio station and recording
studio practices - required
- Organized, a methodical troubleshooter, and able to manage time
wisely – required.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND PROFESSIONAL LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES
- 3 years experience working with LAN- and SAN-based digital audio
systems in a broadcast or recording studio environment – preferred
- A+ Certification - preferred
- MCSE or equivalent - preferred
- Audio Engineering Degree - preferred
- Radio Station and/or Recording Studio Experience - preferred
THIS POSITION IS COVERED BY A COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AGREEMENT BETWEEN
NEW YORK PUBLIC RADIO AND SAG-AFTRA.
