overview
• Designed several recommender systems to improve upon the current You May Also Like (YMAL) rail for the combined HBO Max and Discovery+ streaming service. Deployed the model that led to a 2% increased NDCG in offline evaluation with cloud platforms Amazon SageMaker and Elastic Container Registry.
• Solved the new show cold start problem by building a siamese neural network with triplet loss in PyTorch. Learned a mapping function from content vector space to embedding space where show similarity for the YMAL rail can be calculated directly.
• Developed a heuristic-based YMAL rail recommender system as a baseline for ML-based model comparison. Utilized PySpark, Spark SQL, and Amazon S3.
• Standardized the evaluation dataset and metrics for the YMAL rail to easily compare models. Found the model in production had an identical NDCG score as the heuristic-based YMAL rail recommender system.
