After gaining some lab experience at Cypress Inc., I decided to move back home to Tuscaloosa and find a job here. I began working for Taylorville Family Medicine in at the beginning of 2021. I started out at the lab technician for the Microbiology lab where I ran COVID and respiratory samples for PCR. This consisted of accessioning samples, organizing samples, extracting and plating samples, analyzing results, running plates on Quant Studio 5 thermal cycler, reporting results, reviewing results, approving results, and organizing paperwork for COLA and CLIA requirements. After a few months at the PCR lab, I was given the opportunity ot run the Chemistry/Hematology lab at the clinic. I tested patient’s blood using chemistry and hematology methods and instruments. Instruments included the Sysmex 300 to run CBC’s. the Access 2 instrument for immunoassay testing, and the Beckman Coulter AU480 for chemistry testing.
