- Routinely conducts surveillance and investigations for communicable diseases reportable in Colorado. Performs outbreak investigations in settings such as healthcare, childcare/schools, restaurants, special events, and more. Investigated 15 COVID-19 outbreaks at local businesses in El Paso County from August 2021-April 2022. In approximately 22 months working as an epidemiologist in the Communicable Disease team, completed over 240 day calls (11 foodborne illness, 60 regular communicable disease, and 169 animal related). Served as Lead Investigator for 56 communicable disease outbreaks from April, 2022 - present (17 GI illness, 38 respiratory illness, and one of other origin
- Provides consultation on disease trends, epidemiologic findings, and pertinent infectious disease news to local healthcare partners and providers
- Uses Colorado Electronic Disease Reporting System (CEDRS) daily to monitor reportable diseases, investigate cases, input information, and create and download data reports
- Coordinates with veterinarians, wildlife control experts, and laboratorians to assess risk and facilitate testing of animals that pose a vector-borne disease concern
- Partners with Program Manager, DIS, and fellow epidemiologists to improve processes and solve problems related to communicable diseases
- Gathered accurate data of weekly hospitalized Influenza cases for seasons 2021-2022 and 2022-2023, using PowerBI software to publish public facing dashboard on El Paso County Public Health website
- Using REDCap, created Monkeypox Case Investigation forms and reports to extract and share data with CDPHE
- Participates in monthly shelter roundtable meetings, sharing public health guidance and current events with over 10 partners that serve PEH in Colorado Springs
- Led investigation of Shigella Sonnei oubreak impacting PEH in Colorado Springs (17 confirmed cases, 13 probable cases) from August 2022-January 2023
- Presented on Shigella Sonnei outbreak to El Paso County Board of Health, March 2023
- For approx. one full year, attended calls with leaders of four higher education institutions in Colorado Springs to advise on Monkeypox, RSV, COVID, and other communicable disease concerns
- Provided in-person trainings about rabies exposure and post-exposure prophylaxis to approx. 60 emergency room providers at Colorado Springs hospitals
- Trained three staff new to the "General Outbreaks Team" on COVID-19 outbreak management, trained two new Communicable Disease staff on rabies programmatic material and fundamentals of enteric disease interviews, and provided instruction to seven total staff on REDCap Epi Check Offs process
- For over six months, performed weekly extraction and cleaning for COVID-19 hospitalizations data using CEDRS, COPHS, and Microsoft Excel
