• Dissertation Title: Building a Women’s College: An Examination of the Multilevel Relationship between Organizational Legitimacy, Reputation, and Culture • Uses content analysis of archival data from late nineteenth and early twentieth centuriesto examine strategies new organizations employ to develop legitimacy, reputation, and culture. • Examines relationship between leadership and stakeholders. • Uses 4 women’s colleges—Bryn Mawr College, Spelman College, Skidmore College, and Sweet Briar College—as case studies of ways new organizations develop. • Takes historical approach and uses late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries as key time period. • Gathered archival data. o Visited college special collections to collect data. o Utilized digital collections. • Developed coding method to analyze materials.
