2026 Publishing Internships

Ever since Gutenberg invented Ye Olde Printing Press in 1440, publishing has been a pillar of mass communication. Entering an internship in publishing will place you in a continuously adapting industry at a revolutionary time: in response to threats against traditional print venues, more companies are experimenting with e-books and other digital formats. Publishing internships today are privy to innovations that change how people interact with what they read—news, literature, academic reviews, industry journals—and the reading communities they belong to. Navigate the wild world of a publishing intern: develop the latest installment of an interactive, digitized novel. Create a media list for the release of a new detective noir set in the Roaring Twenties. Organize the final leg of a rising author’s East Coast tour. You may find your place at a small indie publishing house, or you may negotiate contracts for McGraw-Hill. From event planning to public relations, marketing to copyediting, your experiences will run the industry gamut when you intern in publishing. Internships in publishing also put you in contact with a network of editorial and press relations—not to mention the stars of the literary circuit. These are valuable connections that can launch your publishing career and solidify your place in an exciting field.
