The American Academy of Art in downtown Chicago, Illinois is an ideal place to jumpstart a career as an artist. Its nine B.F.A. degree programs run the gamut of visual creativity, from graphic design and 3-D modeling to watercolor and digital illustration. While emphasizing a classical education via core skills in figure drawing and rendering (the Foundations Program), AAA also appreciates the impact a well-rounded education can have on artistic expression, and thus includes a core of courses in the humanities and sciences within each curriculum. On-campus resources include the 2,500-volume Irving Shapiro library and the Bill L. Parks gallery (which is open to the public as well), and students can rent fully-furnished apartments within easy walking distance of both the Academy and such attractions as Lincoln Park and North Avenue Beach. And if one thing is for sure, it’s that AAA won’t leave its students high and dry for work; it requires them to meet regularly with a dedicated Career Services Coordinator to develop a career plan and make connections with the working world. The American Academy of Art—painting a bright picture for hundreds today and more to come!
