Founded in 1997, Delaware College of Art and Design is a private art college located in Wilmington, Delaware. Formed through a partnership between the Pratt Institute, and Corcoran College of Art & Design, the college was started with the aim of revolutionising the manner in which creative thinkers and creators viewed the world around them. DCAD offers associate and certificate degrees in various areas of art such as animation, illustration, and advertising. Housed in an Art Deco style building with Aztec motifs, the campus is mainly a residential one, with a student body of about 200 students. Interestingly, one of the on-campus dormitories was formerly a hotel, while the other used to be a clothing store! Students at DCAD can join any of the various clubs on campus, or can even start their own. The Art Loop is a periodical showing of art work by faculty, students and locals, which is a highlight of the college. Given its convenient location in the heart of Wilmington, students often take the opportunity to visit museums and art shows, as well as explore the local culture.
