Labette Community College, located in Parsons, Kansas, has served thousands of students since its establishment as Parsons Junior College in 1923. As a comprehensive public college, it offers four-year degrees, transfer degrees and professional certifications in a wide variety of subjects, including exercise science, office technology, sociology, accounting and graphic design. On-campus resources include a 24,000-volume library, a shared activity space called the Ed Hendershot Gallery, the 200-seat Thiebaud Theatre, and a Student Success Center that houses a computer lab and several academic services such as personal tutoring. Labette also has an unusually active club scene: academic clubs here cover biology, English, physical therapy and more, in addition to a local chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, the invitation-only honors society. The Cardinals even compete in six NJCAA sports! Few community colleges offer a comparable combination of a close-knit community feeling with so much opportunity for personal enrichment.
