Since 1932, Montana State University--Northern, or MSU-N, in Havre, Montana has offered career-specific training as well as associate’s degrees and bachelor’s degrees in a variety of fields, including community leadership, Native American studies, diesel technology and civil engineering. Regional high school students can dual-enroll to receive college credit early, giving them a jump on higher education and saving time and money. All students here enjoy access to the Vande Bogart Library, the Educational Opportunity Center--a multicultural center that hosts symposia about Native American and Irish history as well as “indigenous movie nights”—and comprehensive learning success services, such as tutoring and test assistance. Known for several notable wrestler alumni like Jesse Juarez and Emmett Wilson, MSU-N’s athletics division also competes in basketball, football, golf, rodeo and volleyball; the men are known as the Northern Lights and the women as the Skylights.
