The Morehouse School of Medicine is a private medical school that originally started as part of Morehouse College in 1975, and went on to become independent from the former in 1981. Located in Atlanta, Georgia, the school offers academic MD and PhD programs along with a variety of other Masters programs in the healthcare field. They also have residency programs in seven different fields, including Psychiatry, Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Surgery. US News places Morehouse at #3 among the country’s best graduate schools for primary care. Morehouse is well known for its members going on to serve at prestigious positions and carving a name for them in the field of their choice. For instance, in 2009, Dr. Benjamin, a trustee at MSM, was nominated to serve as U.S. Surgeon General with the Obama administration.
