About 3,000 students attend New Mexico Junior College, found in the extreme southeast corner of New Mexico, near the city of Hobbs. Its open-door admissions policy encourages students from many surrounding communities to come earn an associate’s degree in cosmetology, nursing, energy technology or any of a number of other areas. Students that need help catching up can also earn their HSE or take coursework in English as a Second Language. NMJC offers a wide variety of online courses, from some that are merely web-enhanced but expect full in-person attendance to others that are conducted entirely online using a tool called Canvas. It is also a fully residential junior college, providing on-campus housing and food services. Students can also participate in an excitingly robust athletics program; the Thunderbirds compete in basketball, baseball, rodeo, golf and cross-country. Fully accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, New Mexico Junior College is a bastion of opportunity, advancing the quality of life and learning each and every day.
