When Oliver Wendell Holmes wrote the poem “The Chambered Nautilus” long ago, he likely would not have guessed that the University of West Florida would come to use the seashell-like imagery within its official logo. But given its status as a symbol of growth and accomplishment, it fits! Over 12,000 students descend upon Pensacola, Florida each year, majoring in impactful areas like cybersecurity, marine biology, women’s studies and Exceptional Student Education. Due to its close proximity to valuable sunken sites, UWF’s archaeology program even has a unique underwater component that grants enrollees hands-on experience they can’t get at landlocked institutions. Furthermore, the popular study-abroad program provides opportunities to visit over 30 foreign countries. The Rec Center offers a challenging climbing wall and hosts the annual Argo Adventure Summer Camp for regional children. Plus, the fine arts center hosts dozens of musical performances and six student-run theatrical productions per year. Student-athletes (known as the Argonauts) compete within Division II of the NCAA in baseball, golf, soccer, cross-country and many more sports. With something for everyone and the warmth of the tropics to boot, the University of West Florida is your key to educational paradise!
