Tufts University, established in 1852, is a private not-for-profit research university located in the Medford/Somerville area of Massachusetts. It enrolls over 10,500 undergraduates, and has a small campus with a strong sense of community. It places a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary learning, which allows its students to gain a wider perspective. It is home to a number of clubs and student organizations, including a substantial Greek scene and well-attended study abroad programs. Students also get to enjoy Medford/Somerville’s low cost of living, while hitting as many bars in Boston as they can; the latter being only a short distance away. Notable Tufts alumni include actor Peter Gallagher and e-Bay founder Pierre Omidyar. The university, with challenging world-renowned programs, is a relatively small school with diverse options.
