Home to the only medical and law schools in the state of Hawaii, the University of Hawaii at Manoa offers over 90 undergraduate and graduate majors, and has earned the rare triple designation of being a land-grant, sea-grant and space-grant institution. Due to its unique topography and climate, UHM is able to sustain one of the few programs in the nation devoted to tropical agriculture, as well as offer a multitude of research opportunities via their School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology. In all, UHM earned more than $400 million in research grants during the 2012 academic year alone. It’s also home to one of the largest libraries in the United States, checking in at 3.4 million print volumes. Beyond the classroom, there’s plenty to do, such as taking in a show at the Kennedy Theatre for the Arts, or proudly cheering on the Rainbow Warriors in NCAA Division I athletics; the men’s and women’s basketball teams even managed to both win the Big West tournament championship in 2016! Grab your leis, folks, because the University of Hawaii at Manoa is one big kahuna, and it’s here to stay.
