Home to the largest medical school in the United States, the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) is found in the Near West Side community of Chicago, right next to the Chicago Loop. Serving over 17,500 undergraduates and almost 12,000 graduate students, UIC stands out from the crowd by cracking the top 50 for highest-quality graduate programs within the U.S. in 15 distinct departments, as ranked by U.S. News and World Report. UIC kicks off fall classes each year with music festival Spark in the Park, and invites all incoming freshmen to apply for special-interest housing, which bonds students together according to common academic foci, career goals, fitness desires, or other interests. Academically, students here are immersed in opportunity from the moment they set foot on campus; the Undergraduate Research Experience program (URE) challenges them to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world situations. And when it’s time to wind down, make some friends and have some fun, 200 student organizations pertaining to art, athletics, Greek life, government and more are available on-campus. All-around, UIC has proven a time-tested and worthwhile academic institution since its founding all the way back in 1867!
