University of Mississippi, more commonly called Ole Miss, is a public research university. It was established in 1848, and has an absolutely gorgeous main campus located in Oxford, Mississippi. Its Honors College has a good academic reputation and the university at large is centered around Greek life and football. The Greek scene is a gateway to many social opportunities and parties. The study body bursts with Rebel spirit, with excitement over football game traditions like Trashcan Friday, tailgates, Walk of Champions and Lock the Vaught. The surrounding city livens up during game weekends and its student body proudly dresses up in game day fashion. The campus squirrels are interesting creatures, who find a way to show up unexpectedly. Greats like William Faulkner, James Meredith and Eli Manning were educated here. Ole Miss is a wonderful amalgam of southern charm and tradition, with many opportunities to socialize and be a part of a beautiful and tight knit community.
