When you make history as the first ever institution of higher education west of the Mississippi River, setting a bar for quality can be a tall order to fill. Good thing the University of Missouri in Columbia, or Mizzou for short, excels all around, from its athletics (the Tigers, victorious over the Minnesota Golden Gophers in the 2015 Citrus Bowl) to its 280+ degree programs in disciplines as varied and specialized as East Asian Studies, Agricultural Journalism, and Industrial Engineering. Its increasingly diverse student body, counting more than 35,000 large, converges upon Mizzou’s 23 residence halls and 55 Greek chapters each semester from around the world. Keeping things even more interesting on campus are unique organizations like the Coffee Tasters of Mizzou, UMC Geology Club and Muggles for Change. Topping it all off, Livability.com even awarded Columbia the ranking of #4 college town in America to live in for the year 2013. With all this going for them, it seems the Tigers won’t be slowing down any time soon!
