University of Rhode Island, established in 1892, is a public research institution located in Kingston, Rhode Island. It has over 13,000 undergraduates, and a campus filled with activity. Its students can choose from over a 100 student organizations and sports at the recreational, club and varsity level. Greek life is huge, with over 20 sororities and fraternities on campus. Students can also hit the beach or go on a cliff walk in the capital city of Providence. Notable URI alumni include American novelist Ann Hood and basketball player Lamar Odom. University of Rhode Island, with its rural campus and proximity to big city entertainment, has a good mix of excitement, peace and quiet.
