3 Quick Tips For Boosting Your Job Search Over the 4th of July

It’s the 4th of July and that means that it’s the season of barbeques, fireworks, family time and…networking? Believe it or not, there are many subtle, but effective ways that you can boost your job search over the holiday and still have a good time. Check out these quick tips to keep your motivation alive and well throughout this long weekend.

1. Discuss job opportunities with family.

Networking with career professionals can be intimidating, especially if you’re shy, but talking to family? Piece of cake. If you’re going to a family BBQ this weekend, use your family members as a resource to learn more about an industry you’re interested in or any job openings they might know about. You can even simply ask them advice about the working world or ask them more about what their jobs entail. These people are close to you and they want to help! Your family will be happy to discuss jobs and internships with you, so don’t be afraid to bring up the topic.

2. Brainstorm with your friends.

Just like family, friends are a great resource for your job search. Are you going to see fireworks or sit around a bonfire with your friends for the 4th? Use your time with them to do a little brainstorming! Your friends are closer in age to you and will be able to tell you some of the specific ins and outs of the job hunt for college students or recent grads. Some of them may be interning right now or working at an awesome company and will be able to share their experiences with you. Since they know you so well, your friends can even help you figure out what you’re looking for in a position or a company, so take advantage of the opportunity over the holiday.

3. Take the time to think about your career goals.

Having some downtime over a holiday weekend is a perfect chance to take a step back and decide what you’d like to get out of an internship or job experience. If you’re feeling extremely dedicated, you can even apply to a few positions that catch your eye. What’s most important though, is to give yourself the chance to evaluate your dreams, your goals and also maybe any dealbreakers regarding your job hunt. Once the holiday is over, if you have even just a little bit more of an idea of what your dream job looks like, you’ve used your downtime well.

While you’re busy keeping the momentum of your job search going, don’t forget to have fun and enjoy yourself as well. Your friends and family are part of your network, so you never know what may happen. Maybe your friend’s brother is looking for an intern or maybe your aunt’s friend’s company is hiring. The 4th of July might be a time for some well-deserved relaxation, but don’t discount its networking opportunities either.
