These 4 Companies Want Sophomores To Apply To Internships NOW

A wise person once said that, of all college students, sophomores have it the hardest. And it makes sense. You’re no longer the inexperienced first-year, but you still haven’t achieved that tenured status of your junior and senior counterparts.

Meanwhile, your professors, parents, and advisors are constantly telling you how important sophomore year is. Your future is on the line. EVERYTHING depends on how you perform these two pivotal semesters.

The stakes are high.

Which brings us to internships. If you’re like most sophomores, you’ve probably asked yourself, “Why does the word sophomore have an ‘o’ in the middle of it?” After pondering that, you’ve then likely contemplated another equally frustrating question: “Why does every internship seem to be exclusively reserved for juniors and seniors?”

If being a sophomore is so important, and if it’s absolutely necessary you gain professional experience while still a second-year student, then why is it so difficult to find an internship?

Well, we’ve been there, and we know how you’re feeling. But it’s time to rid yourself of that ennui, because we have some very good news: There are internships out there specifically designed for sophomores.

And as luck would have it, we have a ton of them on WayUp.

So, put down your Introduction to Nihilism textbook (unless you have an exam, of course, in which case please continue studying). It’s time to check out these four companies that are (ACTIVELY!!!) hiring sophomores for summer internships.

Citi

Interested in working for a global company that is instrumental in keeping the world economy afloat? Well, they’re interested in you, too!

Citi is currently looking for sophomores to apply to its Leadership Program. It’s a virtual, five-week program engineered to help students gain the skills they need to excel in the corporate world.

Long story short: Citi basically wants to teach you everything you need to know to be successful.

Leadership Program candidates are paired with a mentor and get to learn about all the different aspects of Citi’s business operations. They’re also prepped on how to ace Citi’s Summer Analyst interview process. That means they get a HUGE leg up when they apply for those prestigious summer internships.

Something else you might not know? Citi is a worldwide leader in corporate diversity, and it is currently accepting applications for its Early ID Program. That includes the Black Heritage Leadership Program, the Hispanic Heritage Leadership Program, the Women’s Leadership Program, the Veterans Leadership Program, and the Pride Leadership Program.

JPMorgan Chase

JPMorgan Chase is one of the largest and most prestigious companies in the world, and they also happen to be looking for sophomores to apply to internships!

One of their current internship opportunities is their Sophomore Development Program, which offers second-year students the opportunity to develop skills in finance—no finance major required!

Designed for students who self-identify as Black, Hispanic, and Native American, the Sophomore Development Program gives students access to the JPMorgan Chase talent network and provides practical training in banking and finance.

BlackRock

Ever heard of BlackRock? Well, here’s a fact for you: They manage more than $6 trillion in assets.

Yes, that’s trillion with a “T.”

So, what’s it like working for a company that has more than 120 teams working in more than 30 different countries? You can find out for yourself by applying to their 2018 Find Your Forum Program.

Here’s the deal: If you’re a sophomore who wants to build your resume, learn about BlackRock and finance, and hear from world-renowned leaders in business, then you should apply.

The program is open to women and students who self-identify as Black, Hispanic, Native American, LGBTQ+, and disabled.

Interested? Apply now!

Deloitte

Rounding out our list of sophomore-intern-loving companies is Deloitte, the global audit, consulting, and advisory business.

Deloitte has offices around the world and offers a wide-range of opportunities for students throughout college. But if you’re a sophomore you should definitely check out their Summer Leadership Conference, which they’re currently accepting applications for.

The two-day event is open to students studying business, accounting, technology, or a related field, and it’s centered on teaching students how to hone their negotiation, interpersonal, and team-building skills—the kinds of qualities companies look for when they’re hiring for full-time positions.
