What’s it like to intern at global beauty brand L’Oréal? The company shared some cool moments from its summer 2016 internship program.
Do not all work in research labs! Here at R&I, we have computer scientists, too. While our computer scientists may not have the snazzy lab coats and stylish gear that lab scientists have, they have their own cool gear. The Digital Incubator features many prominent computers in a modern lounge that embodies the hallmarks of design and elegance.
From here, our computer scientists conjure the newest concepts in innovation, such as the L’Oréal Makeup Genius app, which ensures you can experience makeup without applying it directly.
Change the way we think about makeup. In my interview for this internship, I remember being asked: “If you were to work in the mascara lab, would you be okay with wearing mascara at work?” To which I responded: “Uhhh…sure?” I’d never thought about wearing makeup before, but now that I work on making new foundations, I try it on all the time. In the makeup labs, we are always modifying formulas and evaluating them on our own skin!
In the picture are all of the different formulas I have made and tested so far this summer! On my face are some different shades of other L’Oréal products for contrast.
Of course we can scientifically create makeup that is waterproof and sweat-proof. but one of the most important aspects to makeup in pre-development is how it feels. If it doesn’t feel good when you put it on and wear it, then the consumer won’t wear it either – pretty simple! We are designing products that the consumer will enjoy while catering to her wants and needs.
Pre-development is the section of R&I between Applied Research and Development. We take new technology from Applied Research and try to incorporate it in new formulas that we know the consumer will want.
