    YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

    This position may be located in Dubuque, Waterloo, Des Moines, or the Quad Cities per the hiring manager's discretion. Regardless of residing location the expectation is the candidate will physically be in Dubuque at least 2-3 days per week based on business demands. This arrangement may be dependent on the successful candidate's background, experience, and proficiency.

    As a DATA SCIENTIST for John Deere Construction & Forestry (C&F) in Dubuque, IA, you will join a John Deere enterprise committed to leveraging data and analytics to drive improved value to our customers and shareholders.  In this position you will be part of the C&F Connected Support organization - a team driving a revolutionary, pro-active customer support model focused on maximizing uptime for customers through technology and machine connectivity.  Advanced data science techniques will further enhance the organization’s ability - enabling step-function improvements in the insights and tools delivered to support our strategy.  Ultimately your contributions will support uptime for customers, service efficiency for our dealers, reduced R&A, and incremental parts sales for Deere. In addition, you will:

    • Collaborate with Connected Support and Engineering teammates to investigate new use cases to leverage advanced statistical and modeling techniques to identify anomalies and/or predict component and system failures
    • Identify data engineering gaps to implement methodologies enabling failure prediction and anomaly detection
    • Lead and execute projects to extract predictive insights based on machine data in support of the Connected Support strategy
    • Perform statistical techniques such as logistic regression, decision trees, neural networks, clustering techniques, and Bayesian; utilize these to frame business scenarios that impact critical business problems and/or decisions connected with dealers and customers
    • Collaborate with enterprise partners and other analytics groups to investigate and leverage new data science techniques, tools, and or processes focusing on continuous improvement
    • Consult Customer Support Engineering resources to facilitate conversations around Design for Data and Diagnostics to ensure future product programs enable ability to predict failure of critical systems and components
    • Support efforts to define divisional and/or enterprise standards around Design for Data

  • Qualifications

    WHAT SKILLS YOU NEED

    • Experience using SQL
    • In depth knowledge of current analytical platforms and tools and ability to utilize these fully independently. (Ex. R, Python, Databricks, AWS, etc.)
    • 2 or more years of experience applying statistical analyses and analytical methodologies on advanced analytics projects, being able to demonstrate the development of algorithms and predictive models to solve business issues
    • Ability to communicate complex analytical insights in a manner which is clearly understandable by the business partners
    • Experience researching and applying innovative tools, concepts, and/or methodologies found in external resources such as white papers, 3rd party publications, etc.

     

    WHAT MAKES YOU STAND OUT

    Other areas of experience or interest that will help us place you on the right team include:

    • Knowledge of C&F products and available machine data from these products
    • Experience applying data science techniques and tools to solve complex problems utilizing C&F machine data
    • Knowledge of C&F dealer channel service operations

    EDUCATION (OR EQUIVALENT WORK EXPERIENCE)

    • Bachelor's degree in mathematics, statistics, advanced analytics, or engineering
