2026 Political Science Entry-level Jobs

After graduating with a degree in political science or a related field, you may feel at a loss as to what entry-level jobs in political science are available and what, exactly, you can use your degree for. You can put your worries aside, however, because there are plenty of diverse jobs in political science available. If you have good persuasive communication skilsl (both written and verbal), for example, you could consider becoming a lobbyist. Lobbyists work hard to convince legislators to vote for specific legislations, usually ones that are in line with their organization’s goals or beliefs. A lobbyist for Planned Parenthood, for example, might try and get legislation passed that allowed sex education to be taught in schools. Most lobbyists are employed by private or public organizations or by private lobbying groups. It might surprise you to learn that many political science entry-level jobs actually relate more to the legal field than they do with politics. Did you know that many political scientists go on to become paralegals, which will often eventually lend itself to a career as a lawyer after further study? Others may become parole or probation officers and help convicted criminals to make the transition back into being productive members of society. Many political science majors also go on to become writers, crafting thoughtful articles, essays, and editorials on the politics affecting our nation and other nations. Other political science jobs include working on behalf of political campaigns, running for office, and performing research for the state legislature. As you can see, there are many opportunities out there; you just have to find your focus!
